Jay Smooth On Mitt Romney & The Olympics

iFanboy Interviews Mark Waid Of Daredevil & Thrillbent Comics

Mark Waid is fresh of three big wins at the 2012 Eisner Awards, and he's re-taking the comics world by storm. On the big name book, Daredevil, he's working with a stunning cadre of artists to remake everything we know about Matt Murdock. Then, he's taking a shot at reinventing digital comics on his own startup, Thrillbent.com. We talk about all this, as well as the end of Waid's series, Irredeemable and Incorruptible.

Mick Boogie x HYPETRAK – #Represent The Stripes Mixtape

Apparently the upcoming Olympics had Mick Boogie feeling a little patriotic so he did what any DJ would do.  He brought together Action Bronson, Chip Tha Ripper, Rapper Big Pooh, Slum Village, STS and more.
What do YOU represent?  Mick Boogie was so impressed with the upcoming adidas #represent campaign that he decided to make a mixtape paying homage to it: “Represent The Stripes.”  And he brought along his good friends at HYPETRAK to make it even better!
The project ties in the ideals of the adidas campaign with the patriotism of the Olympics going on next month… hence the double entendre of “Represent The Stripes.”

iFanboy Interviews Greg Rucka of Lazarus, Alpha & Punisher

With his new novel, Alpha out now, Rucka sees a new series start up, and a new world of spying and terrorism to tell stories in. The exciting news in comics is that Lazarus, with Michael Lark on art, will come out from Image Comics in 2013. Rucka speaks with us about as much of the book as he can, and it's certainly enough to pique your interest. We get updates on Stumptown as well as where the creator stands in terms of who he's working for these days, and what creator owned work means to him.

Just Listen: Rap Genius Interviews Jean Grae

I'm rather late on this, but I recently discovered that Rap Genius has started a very cool podcast where they interview rappers, but it's not your typical interview.  The interviewer,  Shawn Setaro, really is a student of hip-hop and really digs deep into Jean Grae's lyrics, influences and her writing process.  He's like Nardwuar without the gimmicks and that's no shot at Narwuar, because I love his work as well.  Think of this as Inside The Actors Studio for rap.

Dormtainment - I Hate Being Short

I previously touched on the topic of being the most second class of citizens.  But, Dormtainment tackles the topic in a much funnier fashion.  Behold the greatest Youtube video in the history of Youtube videos.  Okay, it's not really the greatest video ever, but it's relevant to my interests.

Pusha T & Kanye West Featuring Jack Kirby - New God Flow (Music Video)

When you're talking about New Gods, you're talking about a comic in Jack Kirby's (THE GREATEST COMIC BOOK CREATOR OF ALL TIME!) magnum opus of interlocking series 'The Fourth World.' It seemed appropriate to add his visual flair to Pusha & Yeezy's new track titled 'New God Flow.
The images are taken from New Gods #3 (featuring the first appearance of the Black Racer). Written and drawn by Jack Kirby, inked by Vince Colletta. - Jaap van der Doelen

iFanboy Interviews Robert Kirkman At #SDCC - Part 1

On the first night of the San Diego Comic Con, we witnessed the unveiling of The Walking Dead Zombie Escape Machine from Robert Kirkman and Hyundai and then proceeded to make fun of Robert because of it. But in all seriousness, the car was badass and it was fun to chat with Robert as usual.
But this isn't all the Kirkman we got, stay tuned for Part 2 coming soon!

Nardwuar vs. DJ Premier

Whenever DJ Premier opens his mouth it basically turns into a Hip-Hop history lesson and things get turned up to level ten when you put him with Nardwuar

TheBeatTapeProject - The MF'in Doom Beat Tape

I'm a huge MF DOOM/DOOM fan as you can tell if you have followed this blog to any amount of time.  Well, the guys over at TheBeatTapeProject are apparently huge fans as well.  This beat tape features over 90 beats inspired by the man behind the mask from a slew of beat makers.

Tall Black Guy - Sparkling Adventure

I know that I am very late to the party, but have you ever had someone put you on to something and it kind of goes in one ear and out the other?  Well, that's what happened with Tall Black Guy.  Months ago (maybe even a year) Buscrates played some of his tracks for me and I liked what I heard, but for whatever reason I never followed up on it.  Somehow during my travels through the internet, I stumbled upon Tall Black Guy's work again and this time I was more than ready for it.  You'll definitely be seeing more of his work on the blog in the future.

The City Of Chino, California Vs. @NatesVlogs

I'm a huge fan of NatesVlogs.  I find his videos hilarious.  If they pop up in any of my feeds I'm usually in front of my computer and watching it within 10 minutes.  I have literally never watched a video of his without laughing out loud.  The same goes for his latest uploads.

Sadly, the topic is neither funny or cool, but leave it to Nate to make light of a bad situation.  Whether you're Black or brown "fitting the description" is a real problem even on the 4th of July.

Childish Gambino - Royalty Mixtape

Mr. Gambino has quite the guest list on his newest release.  I can't think of too many people who can bring together Ghostface & Tina Fey on one project.

!llmind - Throwblaps Vol. 1 (Beat Tape)

“As promised, here is the infamous ‘THROWBLAPS’ compilation. I had this idea a long time ago, but was always reluctant to put it out. I’ve got more than 3,000 beats I made over several years, on several hard drives. I knew most of them will probably never see the light of day, until now! This edition is a collection of random beats I made between the years 2000 and 2002. It was an exciting time for me because I had ZERO placements, I had JUST copped an Ensoniq ASR-10 keyboard, and I was making, like, 10 beats a day. It was crazy. I was still pretty wet behind the ears, and after hearing it, you will notice the heavy J Dilla influence (R.I.P.).
