A New Addition To The Blog: Essential Podcasts

Since moving to Chicago from Pittsburgh, I have been riding public transit constantly. Back home a car was pretty much a necessity. When I was driving I would typically listen to sports talk radio or music that I had in the car. Now that I'm using trains & buses so much I tend to have my Zune surgically attached to me.

I've noticed that I listen to music more when I'm at my laptop. When I'm on the go it tends to be podcasts most of the time. I don't listen to music podcasts because I never really saw the point. I own more than enough music to listen to what I want, when I want. Anyway, this was a long winded way to mention that on the lower right of the blog I added a podcast list of some of the podcasts that I listen to frequently.

I since I don't have cable, podcasts are kind of like the next best thing for some shows. They allow me to get my daily fix of Tony Kornheiser & Mike Wilbon of Pardon The Interuption. I wish my Zune, or any other mp3 player, would have an AM tuner so I could here the Dan Patrick Show instead of through podcasts.

I subscribe to Countdown With Keith Olbermann as well as Real Time With Bill Maher for my current affairs news/commentary. I tend to watch Countdown online, but the Real Time podcast definitely gets weekly play when he's on air.

You can check the podcast list for other podcasts that I check out. I have been listening to comic book podcasts lately. Doc Midnight kinda dragged me back into comics, just when I kinda had that habit kicked. lol

Do you listen to any podcasts? If so, which ones?

I Won The Cup (I’m On A Boat Parody) - NWS!!!

As many of you know, although I've moved to Chicago, Pittsburgh is still home. I've been a Pens fan years before we ever won their first cup. So I was definitely geeked to see Sid raise the cup after and Geno bring home the Conn Smythe Trophy after Game 7 of the finals. Anyway that was all to lead to one of the best parodies I've ever seen.

I won the Cup
I won the Cup
Everybody look at me cause I won the Stanley Cup.
I won the Cup

I won the Cup
Take a good hard look at the mother fucking Cup.

I won the cup mother fucker take a look at me
87 on my sweater with a big old C
Im scoring mad goals, yeah fucker thats whats up.
You cant stop me ho cause I won the FUCKIN Cup!

Take a picture trick.
I won the cup bitch
Im eating moms Russian soup cause its DEE-LISH!
I got my Ruslan
And my Maxy Talby
Im learning English on the side
As a fucking hobby.

Im skatin up on offense
Doing spins and shit
The fans are clapping
Getting all the girlies all wet.
But this aint 08
This is real as it gets
I won the Cup mother fucker dont you EVER forget!

I got the puck annnnnnd
Im skating fast annnnnd
I just pull multiple goals out of my ass and.
Im the boss of the league, cashing checks from Shero
If you're on the course than your sure not me-o

Fuck the Caps I won the Cup mother fucker!
Fuck the Wings I won the Cup Mother fucker!
Im 21 and living dreams mother fucker!
I fill the cup with my seed mother fucker!

Magnetogorsk if you could see me now
First Russian on the Conn Smythe, wow
Gonna read the names on the Cup somehow
but probably not, CAUSE THERE'S A FUCKING LOT OF EM!

Ray Shero:
Yea, I never thought Id win the Cup
It's silver and heavy as fuck
Lord Stanely, look at me.
I never thought Id see the day
With Gary Bettman coming my way
Believe me when I say

Palm Pre Coming To Verizon? *ears perk up*

Back in March I posted a demo video of the much talked about Palm Pre. It's currently exclusive to the Sprint network, but there's talk that it might be coming to Verizon! This makes me very happy, because I'm a satisfied customer. I just wish we had doper phones for the most part. According to the Wall Street Journal as well as PC World, we could be seeing the Pre on Verizon's network in the first quarter of the new year.

Verizon Chief Executive Lowell McAdam went a step further:
"Over the next six months or so you will see devices like Palm Pre and a second generation Storm," on the Verizon Wireless network, McAdam said. "You can expect to see us launch a steady stream of new devices from multiple vendors." - Reuters

I need you smartphone addicts to come to Verizon so I can have more people to call for free.

God Of War 3 Demo

This is the number one reason why I badly want a PS3! Beat 'Em Up action games are my favorite genre of games. They are what made me fall in love with video games. I spent hours at home playing Streets Of Rage & Golden Axe on my Sega Genesis. I don't know how many quarters I spent down at the corner store playing Double Dragon & Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

God of War III gives me those great memories from the past when I look at the gameplay footage. I just wish someone would make a new generation of Beat 'Em Ups with multiplayer capabilities.

Maybe the only way to kill autotune is to OD on it.

JSmooth over at Ill Doctrine has decided to throw his hat into the autotune arms race with another mash up of Jay-Z's Death Of Autotune:

Now that Jay-Z has shaken up the hip-hop world with Death of Autotune, I started wondering: what will happen when the music industry programs its evil robots to fight back? This is my vision of that apocalyptic future.

NOTE: this video is by no means meant as an endorsement of autotune usage (or of Jamie Foxx's creepy borderline date rape lyrics). - Jay Smooth

Skyzoo with a REAL freestyle

It's great to see cats actually freestyle off the top instead of spitting written rhymes, especially off of a Black Berry.

I can't wait until he drops his album, The Salvation. Emilio Sparks touches on the album as well as his newest mixtape in his Inside The Rapper's Studio-like interview with Sky.

De La Soul & Nike Are Back Together Again

De La Soul came together with Nike to celebrate 20th anniversary of 3 Feet High and Rising by releasing "Are You, In?" as in R.U.N. . . . get it? lol (Blogger's note: Why the hell is it only available on itunes? Some of us don't have ipods or use itunes!?!!? If someone out there has this, I would be eternally grateful if I received an e-mail containing new music (hint, hint).

This isn't the first time the 2 giants came together. A Few years ago Nike & De La Soul teamed up for the limited edition Nike Dunk SB High De La Soul.

Hoping for an e-mail of De La Soul,

Precious (aka Push)

In this inner-city horror story, newcomer Gabourey Sidibe plays Clarice, a pathetic ghetto girl enduring more personal plagues than Job. Called "Precious," she's illiterate, overweight and emotionally abused by her deadbeat mother (Mo'Nique). Slow in school, Precious wallows in junior high at 16 and is shuffled through the system to a "special" program.

Shoving her boxcar frame into the bleak makeshift classroom, Precious confronts the first ray of help in her life, a charismatic teacher called Blu Rain (Paula Patton). With Blu Rain's feisty prodding, Precious slogs toward her GED.

Precious sustains herself through intermittent fantasies. She envisions herself as the worshipful object of mass media's most vapid idealizations: a red-carpet superstar and, most shockingly, a blonde-haired/blue-eyed white beauty queen. That weird warp is darkly ironic; from the outside it seems the ultimate degradation to Precious. Yet, those oddly inspired flights are the sole windows of self-esteem and sustenance for this degraded girl.
