Random Geekery: Sarah Vowell On Nerds

“Being a nerd, which is to say going to far and caring too much about a subject, is the best way to make friends I know. For me, the spark that turns an acquaintance into a friend has usually been kindled by some shared enthusiasm like detective novels or Ulysses S. Grant.” — Sarah Vowell, The Partly Cloudy Patriot

That's a really interesting point. I really wish I could find friends through my nerditry...but instead I have friends despite it. None of them understand my geeky passions and they tell me that all the time. Maybe someday though.

I understand you completely. It took me moving to a bigger city to find more like-minded people. Searching for someone similar to myself in the female form is kinda what keeps me going at times.
