I Love You, Lydia Adams!

I love you too, Regina (You're looking better than you ever have, btw). You've got another character based in Los Angeles, but you've come a long way from Boyz N The Hood & Poetic Justice. Lydia Adams of NBC's Southland is a phenomenal woman.

Her walk is mean.

She wears the hell out of her pants suits.

The eyes!!! *drools*

She's like a pit bull when she's advocating on behalf of her victims.

She's professional, not in white collar sense, but in regards to her taking her job seriously and taking pride in her work.

Lydia's such a compassionate person, which is become more and more rare in society (I know she's not real!).

I even love her hair and typically I don't really care what a woman's hair looks like as long as it isn't a bad weave or something super crazy.

Plus, she's on the best new show that I've seen on network television in a looooong time. If you're around the crib on a Thursday night or on Hulu you should check Southland out. I highly recommend it.

Your stan . . . er . . . fan,

Ivory Dome Gives You Asa

I still am on the " I'm over acoustic guitar, 'singing a song and being shy' " but, and it is a grand but, an exception is made when it comes to Asa(AH-SHA). The french born, Nigerian caught my attention a while ago, but appreciation for her sound was a slow build because of the acoustic guitar overload I was experiencing. The album is a gem from the"dark continent" , as the west likes to think of it, but that is a different story. Asa's self titled debut is a great effort, 360°, Jailer (Free Amazon Download) and Fire On The Mountain are the stand out English tracks for me, while Awe and Bibanke are my favourite Yoruba tracks, Yoruba being Asa's native language. Dig her tracks for societal insights and love trials

Another Evening With 8thlight

Well, this past Wednesday, the 22nd I went to The Abbey in Chicago to catch Wale's The Attention Deficit Tour featuring Colin Munroe. I was really amped to see Wale & Colin. I loved both of the Wale mixtapes that I've heard (100 Miles And Running & The Mixtape About Nothing). 100 Miles is definitely my favorite because it's filled with tons of my favorite beats.

The first time I had heard of Colin was when he killed Kanye's Flashing Lights a little while ago and I've been following him ever since. I loved his Unsung Hero mixtape as well so I was really looking forward to this show and when I found out that Mic Terror was also on the bill it was a must that I go.

Anyway, on to the show . . . It was supposed to start at 9pm with the doors opening at 8pm. I'm turning the corner to venue at about 9:15pm only to see a long ass line outside! WTF?!!?!? Why was was it after 10pm and I was still standing outside with my ticket waiting to get it? I could see the opening act in the window from outside!!?! >_< Who ever was in charge at the Abbey really shouldn't have still had a job as of Thursday morning.

I finally get inside around 10:30pm or 11pm just in time to see Mic Terror take the stage. If I would've missed him I would've seriously tried to get my money back for the shenanigans that took place at the door. Luckily, I made it in time to get some decent footage. Be gentle this was my first foray into concert video. lol

After Mic Terror came Colin Munroe, but unfortunately the sound engineer was having a difficult time getting things together. Munroe's mics weren't very loud and some faint booing could be heard. I think it kind of got too Colin because he seemed really flustered on stage after the boos began. His set was so short that I didn't even get any video or pics. I was hoping he would perform Will I Stay with Wale, but no luck on that front.

And now for the main event!

Wale's backing band was a Go-Go band called UCB. They were definitely dope. Wale, himself was great although I think he's been studying Jay-Z a little too closely. I wondered if he had any mannerisms of his own. It was the only negative of seeing him live. I don't hate Jay-Z, but I definitely didn't expect to a physical clone of his. lol Jay definitely seems to have his finger prints all over this. Wale's even wearing a Roc-A-Fella chain.

Sadly, my memory card was too full to get video of him performing Chillin' or when he turned W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E. into Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit. But overall it was a great performance and I can't wait to see him again . . . but this time in a much better venue with a suitable sound system and people at the door who know what they are doing.

Thanks for reading,

P.S. If you happen to be reading this and in Toronto, you might want to go check him out.

MF DOOM - One Beer (Drunk Version) & Toys

In my travels through the interwebs I happened to stumble upon a couple of cool MF DOOM (I know that it's just DOOM, but this sounds cooler) things. While over at RappCats.com I saw this gem:

A cool Madvillain cubecraft toy. But, wait! There's more! How about a KMD toy with a removable MF Doom mask? Both are courtesy of Blogification.

Here's a zip file with both template designs for those Cubeecraft & DOOM fans out there:

Ivory Dome Gives You AYO

Ayo (Ayo Ogunmakin), Nigerian-German singer/songwriter, has been on my radar for a bit and this past weekend, I see she's on Banana Republic ads for their City Stories campaign. I found myself listening to her album and finding a new appreciation for her simplistic approach. I'm over acoustic guitar, "singing a song and being shy" music but this works. She has a new site up and has put up a video for a new single from Gravity At Last, her follow up project to 2008's Joyful. Watch Lonely here.

Skyzoo - The Power Of Words

John Madden = Football

I'm going to miss hearing John Madden doing games. Whenever Madden was doing a game, it just seemed to heighten the event. I'm glad he was able to go out on top, calling what may go down as the best Super Bowl ever. I can't even think of who is the second best color commentator in football. There's going to be a huge void in my Autumns & Winters, but he definitely gave the sport far more than he took from it.

Mayweather's Not So Money/Back For More Cash

Mr. Mayweather may no longer be able conviently retire to duck fighters who can possibly beat him. According to SportingNews.com & Boxingscene.com, "Money" as Mayweather is known to call himself, is having a bit of a cash flow problem. He's in debt to the IRS for $6,000,000. I guess he's not exactly printing money over there at his label, Philthy Rich Records.

This gives me hope that I may finally see him step in the ring with Shane Mosley or Miguel Cotto. But since those are the only fights I care to see him in, instead he will continue to pick fights against naturally smaller fighters like the winner of Manny Pacquiao & Ricky Hatton. Mayweather's already easily beaten Hatton once at Welterweight, although Ricky is naturally a Junior Welterweight (140 lbs). He will probably try for an easy pay day if Ricky were to pull out an upset of Pacquiao, which I seriously doubt he can do. If Manny were to win Floyd would dodge Cotto & Mosley by going after a man who won his first world title in the Flyweight division. FLYWEIGHT!!! That's 112 lbs, kids! Hell, there's even talk of Floyd possibly coming out of retirement to face Juan Manuel Márquez, according to ESPN.com's Dan Rafael.

What are your Hip-Hop confessions?

I'm a huge Skillz. He's one of my favorite rappers. I tend to like his mixtapes more than his albums, but music is music to me so I really don't care. I recently got my first chance to see him in concert and he was great.

When I saw this video, I thought the first two confessions were interesting. I'm not a huge Outkast fan. My favorite album of theirs was Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik. I never really got too into the rest of their music. I would hear a song here & there that I liked, but never anything that made me run out and buy one of their albums. I even think that Andre 3000 is a top 5 emcee in regards to talent, but not necessarily production. But, Big Boi kinda makes my ears bleed. He always seems like he's fighting his words, similar to Talib Kweli. The slight advantage that Talib has is that he has superior content.

The second confession didn't seem like much of a confession. Not owning an album by the Emmitt Smith of the rap (ie: incredibly overrated) until after he got shot isn't much of a confession to me. Hell, I just scanned my windows media player and found that I don't own a single song of his. I do have songs by other artists in which he makes an appearance.

The third confession is a head scratcher. I question it's validity. I just don't see how it can possibly be true. I will let you watch the video for that one. lol

What are some of your hip-hop confessions?

The Lonely Island - Like A Boss [Uncensored]

SNL & Mr. Samberg hit another homerun this weekend with Like A Boss. I loved the beginning when he was talking about the more mundane things of office life. I don't think they needed to jump the shark. They definitely could've stuck with that and it would have been hilarious.

With that being said, I still can't stop playing Like A Boss. Why does it make more sense when Andy says, like a boss, than when Rick Ross does? lol
